ST. JOHN AND THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF THE REVELATION (APOCALYPSE)

'I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches wich are in Asia'
(KJV-Rev. 1:11)
ST. JOHN

Saint John, also known as Saint John the Theologian, or the Divine, addressed his 'Book of Revelation' to the seven Churches of Asia Minor. This book, written during John's exile on the island of Patmos in the year that the emperor Domitian prosecuted the Christians, would date from the years 95 or 96. Last book of the New Testament, it is probably the most difficult one to understand because of its symbolic language, Its literature style is known as apocalyptic, namely obscure, pertaining to the revelation of secret matters connected with the end of the world.
The only knowledges we have on Saint John's life come from apocryphal stories recorded after his death. Tough often identified to Saint John the Evangelist, traditional author of the Fourth Gospel, the Gospels agree that he decided to follow Christ with his brother James. He became one of Christ's closest disciples, was present at the Transfiguration and Crucifixion.
'When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, 'woman, be hold your son' Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home'(Jn. 19:26-27)
Some sources say that he was martyred like his brother Saint James and buried in Jarusalem, other hold that taking the Virgin with him. Saint John travelled to Ephesus in Asia Minor, was exiled to the of Palmos before returning to Ephesus where he died and was buried. The seven Churches of Asia Minor
"I, John, your brother, who share with you the distress , the kingdom, and the endurance we have in Jesus, found myself to the island called Patmos because I proclaimed God's word and gave testimony to Jesus. I was caught up in the spirit on the Lord's day and heard behind me a voice as loud as trumpet, which said, 'write on a scroll what you see and sent it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyateira, Sardis, Philadephia, and Laodicea.'(Rv. 1:9:11)
