Istanbul

new, modern and traditional. The Museum, churches, palaces,
mosques and bazaars, and sights of naturalbeauty seem inexhaustible.

ol Antalya is an ttactive city with shady palm lined boulevards
and a prize-winning marina.At Antalya, the pine-clad Taurus
Mountains sweep down to the sparkling clear sea forming an irregular
coastline of rocky headlands and secluded coves. The region,
bathed in sunshine 300 days of the year, is a paradise of sun-bathing,

Pamukkale
'cotton castle' is a natural wonder of mineral- rich waters
cascading over travertines formed troughout the centuries and
set amid historic ruins. This termal center 20 km north of Denizli
is known all over the world for its restorative and therapeutic
benefits for such maladies as rheumatism, dermatosis and gynecological
disorders as well as nervous and digestive complaints.

| TRABZON |
The
city was founded in the 7 th centurv B.C. was the center of
the Comnene Empire left over after the fall of Byzantine Costatinople,
and was handed over to conquering Ottomanans in 1461. The jewel
of the city is the 13 th century Byzantine St. Sophia Church
with frescoes on each of its interior walls.The Sumela Monastery
in Altındere National Park is another site to see.

Cappadocia

landscape of capped pinnacles and fretted ravines in colors

lagoon is justly famous. Set in a lovely bay, the popular resort

| Christianity in Anatolia |
After Israel, Turkey has more biblical sites
than any other country.For this reson Turkey is rightly called
The Other Holly Land. Many christians are unaware of Turkey's
important contribution because in biblical reference works this
strategic peninsula is usualy referred to as Asia Minor or Anatolia.
The Land of Turkey is especilly important in understanding the
backround of the New Testament, Because approximately two-thirds
of its book were written either to or from churches in Anatolia
. The three major Apostels- Peter, Poul and John - either ministered
or lived in Anatolia. .This chapter will explore Turkey's rich
spiritual heritage, which starts at the very beginning in the
book of Genesis. |
| Anatolia And The Old Testament |
Two of the four rivers in the Creation account
have their source in eastern Anatolia. The Euphrates and Tigris
rivers flowed through the Garden of Eden(Gen.2:13) Some traditions
suggest that this garden in which Adam and Eve lived was located
in sout western Anatolia.After the gread flood Noah's ark rested
on the mountains of Ararat (Gen. 8:4). Mount Ararat in Eastern
Anatolia is often identified as this site.The descendants Noach's
son Japhethcomprised the nations that sattled in Anatolis-Gomer,
Magog, Javan Tubal, and Meschech(Gen. 11:31 -32) |
| Anatolia And The New Testament |
The Origins of the Church
On the Day of Pentecost Jews from Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,
Phrigia, and Pamphilia
were gathered in Jarusalem( Act 2:9-IO)Many of these were eyewitnesses
to the outpouring of the Holly Spirit and Peter's subsequent
semon. Some were undoubtly amoung the three thousand who beliaved
on Jesus that day(Acts 2:41). Returning home, these were the
first Christians in Anatolia. |
